What are the aims of the Disability Awareness course?
Learners who successfully complete this module will:
- Recognise and understand the varying types of disability, e.g. visual impairment, deafness, physical disability, etc.
- Communicate appropriately with all service users.
- Understand the tasks required in preparing to receive or assist a person with a disability.
- Understand how to safely provide guidance and assistance if required to a person who has a disability.
- Understand the current legislative framework as it applies to people with disabilities, Disability Act 2005, Employment Equality Act and the Equal Status Act.

This course is designed for those who wish to broaden their knowledge of disability enabling them to communicate comfortably with people with disabilities while promoting an equality based approach.

This is a one day course running from 9.30am to 4pm.
