What are the aims of the FETAC Level 6 Disability Awareness Course?

Participants will develop an understanding of the issues which can minimise the participation of people with disabilities in society. Participants will also develop an awareness of how to best ensure that their services are accessible to people with disabilities. The course will facilitate participants to:

  • Obtain knowledge of the historical background to disability services and definitions of disability.
  • Be aware of legal considerations associated with disability.
  • Be familiar with specific types of disabilities and how these can be accommodated.
  • Appreciate various rehabilitation and support strategies available to people with disabilities and their families. 

Who should participate on the FETAC level 6 Disability Awareness Course?

Anyone who works with or provides services to others particularly those, who wish to ensure that their services and programmes are accessible to everyone including people with disabilities and their families. Learners do not need a previous formal qualification but will be able to fluently read, draft, prepare and understand complex information, including quantitative information, that is personally relevant and reflecting a broad knowledge base. Learners will be able to solve problems well, independently and as part of a range of different groups, accepting personal responsibility for the quality of outcome.

What is the course duration and is the course assessed?

The course runs over 3 days and is assessed through the production of a portfolio of evidence comprising of 2 pieces of assessment, which will require personal learning, reflection and study.

How much does the course cost and what resources are provided?

The cost of the course is €799.00 per participant. This includes expert tuition over 3 days, course materials, FETAC administration, lunch and refreshments. In addition learners are provided with ongoing support and a range of accommodations are possible, according to specific need. Learners will require access to a computer with CD Rom drive to avail fully of course materials. Please contact us to enquire about in-house training costs.
